Engraved plaques from Cova del Parpalló (Gandia, Valencia). I. Gravettian and Middle Solutrean.

Vitrina 19
Parpalló plaques were decorated by engraving and painting, techniques that sometimes were combined. The engraving was done with flint instruments, seemingly without a drawing sketch. The painting, truly exceptional in Paleolithic portable art offers both samples of complete covered surfaces as well as linear strokes, using natural mineral dyes such as hematite and ocher.
